Vikings were so loyal to their families, in fact, that the loyalty was often to a fault and would lead to even more violence. For example, if a man was killed, his family would often try and take revenge on the family or people who caused his death. This could lead to many years of fighting, and even deaths, between families for generations! This disputing and taking of a ‘life for a life’ was called blood-money by the Vikings.
